Game: Destroy the 'Installation'...

Off back somewhere in the Western front, the resistance and a detachment of commandos attempt to take out a key new 'radar' installation....

---oXo---
The 'radar' installation, the equipment is installed and being prepared for operation (not yet got it's cover off )...
Resistance and commandos gather in the woods nearby....
The attack group advance, while a german patrol is on the move ....
The german patrol and resistance exchange fire ....
The attack group closes in on their target, the german patrol is pinned down in a wood and taking casualties; the small garrison at the installation spill out of their billets ...
Both sides take casualties as the attack group tries to get close to their target ....
The attack group gets in close and a few well placed grenades and a small satchel charge blows up the target - kabooom !!
The attack group withdraws and melts away into the woods ....

Home Guard Town (5) - Completed

I needed to have roads from the edge of the town to get to the gaming table sides; being lazy I cut up an old faded grey T shirt into 3 inch strips to match the road width on my town base boards - shown below is one of the T shirt road sections ..

Choosing a name for the town has been on my mind, finally thought up one which appeals to me
 Freazingham - by - the - Sea

East end of town showing pier etc; the church has been repainted and looks much better ...
The west end of the town..
The whole town, it takes up most of the table, but should be great for gaming,
as the town is on two boards I can separate it so can have east or west part on one side (or edge) of the table for more flexibility; perhaps the town should have a small harbour or nearby fishing village - I have a suitable coastal module design for my pirate games which could be re-used.
Finally some new recruits for the home guard, to add to my existing figures I've modified a couple of Valiant british infantry..
These look OK, so I'll do some more conversions.

Home Guard Town (4) - Pier Completed

The pier I was working on (see previous post) has had a quick paint job. I also finished it off with a small building (perhaps an amusement arcade) made from cardboard and some spare plastic roof sheet.

Home Guard Town (3) - work on the pier

I managed to get my coastal modules set up on the gaming table last night and started work on the pier; I used a bit of spare MDF board cut to shape and for the underside I cut down an oversize plastic jetty from the oddments box and added some extra upright supports with hibachi skewers and cardboard
After that some railings made from cardboard; the pier awaits its building and a lick of paint ....
I also bought a police box from Hornby Skaledale range and actually finished painting a figure for the project - a policeman (from Irregular Miniatures).
Excuse me, where's the nearest toilet ?

Home Guard Town (2) - Sea front road sections

I've finished the two front add on sections which form the sea front road, I started painting the roads but I ran out of paint - doh ! , bad town planning :)
Next step will be to get the coastal modules on the table and make a small pier.

Home Guard Town (1) - first layout and scenics

I've finished the inital layout of the home guard town area bases; the roads need painting but the first simple scenics have been added; pavements using Metcalfe sheets; cobbled areas using my own made up sheet; and grass areas from a Citadel game mat.  Still have to paint in the roads.

The posh end of the town ...
The rest of the town ...
The home guard on patrol ...
is the Pub open yet ?

Home Guard Town - first try..

First attempt to layout my seaside 'home guard town', the base boards will be setup with the roads etc on, the buildings will stay separate. In front of the main boards will be the seafront road. Church needs a tower ...keep me busy for  while .....

A nice little map of Walmington-On-Sea,

Sourced from http://number1platoon.tripod.com/id10.html; I'll be using this as inspiration for setting out my seaside town.

Coastal modules for gaming ...

While I was in the mood on Sunday I decided to do the new 'island/coast' modules for my gaming table, so I could have a continual coast along the whole table (yep I have a weird sized table, 2ft11in by 7ft 5in with backscene and the backscene corners are curved - it fits the space available !). I built a couple of  spacers for the curved corners and a long 3x2ft section with removable 'beach', to go with two of my existing 2ft wide modules. New modules were made using 3mm mdf and timber frame

New modules nearing end of construction, showing centre one about to get its mdf top.
new modules assembled and trial fitted (house for rough idea of scale) ..
and finally new modules covered in green fabric to match the rest - ready for scenic bits !

Inching along ... new buildings

My painting 'plans' have been put awry, I have been away on a training course for a week - so not much progress on the paratroops. I did manage to get to the local Toy&Train collectors fair before I went away and picked up some more buildings.
I think I now have a enough buildings for my Home Guard town, I would like a gasometer though. I have to make two more coastal modules for the gaming table, then I'll try laying out the town.

British Paratroopers on the go ...

British Paratroopers - HQ and heavy weapons get prepared for painting
These are a mixture of Italeri british commandos/infantry/paratroopers. The commandos/infantry have either had their helmet remodelled or heads swapped from 'odd pose' paratroopers.

A box of goodies ...

My friend and regular wargames opponent, turned up for a game evening with a box of stuff he'd cleared out of his attic, amongst the goodies were some useful kits and a nice house.
Also there were some part made SuperQuick card kits houses and some un-made Metcalfe card kits.

Some more new buildings ..

I hoovered up these madeup card buildings (I think they arell Metcalfe ones) off the stalls at my local Toy&Train collectors fair on Sunday; these will go towards my home guard town - still need a few more shops.
On the workbench at the moment are some additions to for my British Paratroopers - HQ company and heavy weapons company.
